Wasps & hornets
Late summer in Jefferson County and the Northern Panhandle is nest season. The gray paper footballs under vinyl eaves, gutter corners, porch ceilings, and fence posts are almost never honey bees. They are bald-faced hornets and aerial yellowjackets, and they will defend the nest.
Ants
Pavement ants and odorous house ants use Ohio Valley slab cracks, mulch beds, and damp basements as highways. Spraying the counter only breaks the line you can see.

In season, often yes. Send a photo of the nest location — eave, porch ceiling, gutter, or post — and we will tell you the next open window.
